How the Finder works
How the Autovex Finder ranks cars
The Finder turns eight quick questions into a single weighted score per car. Budget fit, driving character, performance, practicality and ownership are each scored 0–100 against what you told us, then combined with weights that lean toward performance or everyday usability as your usage slider moves — budget carries the most influence, ownership the least. It's the same scoring philosophy behind our side-by-side comparisons, applied to the whole database at once.
Body style, fuel type, brand and model year are treated as strict filters: if you're set on a convertible, you'll never be shown a coupé. Should a combination rule out every car in the database, the Finder relaxes those filters rather than leaving you empty-handed, and says exactly what it widened. Every score is built from our editorial gradings and normalised spec data — the full method is documented on the Methodology page.
